Academic Divisions and Research

The Sloane Hospital for Women has a rich tradition of academic leadership, excellence in clinical training, and advances in reproductive science research.  At the helm of the department’s research efforts is the Chair, Dr. Mary D’Alton.  Dr. D’Alton recently served as the Principal Investigator for the FaSTER trial of aneuploidy detection in the first trimester.  This study included more than 38,000 patients and was the largest grant ever awarded by the NICHD in obstetrics. We are proud of our large internationally renowned faculty, and the department has trained many outstanding physicians who have gone on to become leaders and innovators in the field of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

Research

Our residents work in the busy clinical setting of each of these divisions under the close and supportive supervision of a dedicated and dynamic group of physicians who are committed to teaching and are invested in their professional development.  Each of our residents participates in a research project and many have presented their work at national meetings or have collaborated with faculty members on publications during the course of their training. Each resident is also sponsored to attend one national conference during the course of their tenure.

The residency program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).  House officers at Sloane Hospital for Women hold academic appointments as Post-doctoral Residency Fellows of Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons.  As an important part of their learning experience residents are expected to teach, supervise and evaluate medical students on all services.
